Damietta Alliance Container Terminals Announces the Start of Commercial Operations at the New Terminal
DAMIETTA February 14, 2026 – Today, Damietta Alliance Container Terminals (DACT) officially announces the start of commercial operations at its most modern Container Terminal at Damietta Port, Egypt. The start of commercial operations for the state-of-the-art terminal is an inspiring moment, for the company, alliance partners, Egypt, the region, and for the container handling and logistics community worldwide. The new terminal represents a big step forward in its commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and global connectivity.
Spanning 93 hectares, the terminal boasts world-class infrastructure: 1,670 meters of quay length with a water depth of 18 meters, a main terminal area, pre-gate complex, and administrative offices. It is equipped with 12 fully electric Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, capable of handling 25 rows, with 57.5 meters under the spreader and a 30.48-meter span, alongside 40 hybrid Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes featuring fully electric busbar or diesel generator options and a 41-ton lifting capacity. Additional assets include 16 spreaders, 12 lashing cages, 8 Out-of-Gauge (OOG) frames, and six train lanes (starting with two).
Designed to handle transshipment operations efficiently, the terminal will reach a capacity of 3.3 million TEUs. Damietta Alliance Container Terminals (DACT) is engineered for sustainability and operational excellence, ensuring minimal environmental impact and maximum performance, safety and reliability. Damietta Alliance Container Terminals S.A.E. is a joint venture established to develop and operate the new container terminal at Damietta Port. The venture comprises three core shareholders: Hapag-Lloyd Damietta GmbH, represented by the Terminals & Infrastructure division, Hanseatic Global Terminals (39%), Eurogate GmbH (29.956%), and Contship Italia S.p.A. (29.956%), along with two additional partners: Ship & C.R.E.W. Egypt S.A.E. (1%) and Middle East Logistics & Consultants Group (0.07%).
This global alliance is further strengthened by substantial financial backing, with an investment exceeding $600 million for the first phase of development. Funding is provided by the shareholders and leading international financial institutions, including EBRD, IFC, DEG, AIIB, and Proparco Bank. The terminal plays a pivotal role in facilitating Egypt’s maritime trade, with an expected traffic mix of approximately 80% transshipment and 20% import and export. Serving both local cargo for Damietta and Greater Cairo and transshipment cargo destined for the Levant and Black Sea regions, the facility noticeably strengthens Egypt’s position as a key regional logistics hub.
With sincere appreciation to the Government of Egypt, represented by H.E. Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, and his dedicated team, whose unwavering support has accelerated the successful delivery of Damietta Alliance Container Terminal “Tahya Misr 1.”
In addition to operational excellence, the terminal brings direct socioeconomic opportunities to the community of Damietta and Egypt by generating around 2,000 new jobs, direct and indirect, and supporting long-term economic growth in the country.
DACT is committed to building a mutually respectful and collaborative relationship with surrounding communities. We aim to achieve this through continuous dialogue and active partnerships with a broad network of community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders.
A heartfelt thank-you to our dedicated team, stakeholders, and partners for their relentless efforts in making this milestone possible. This terminal represents more than infrastructure, it is a strategic gateway to future growth and a stronger, more resilient global supply chain.
